Your Reset Button Isn’t Tied to a Calendar
Because growth, clarity, and change can start on any day — even today.
The other day, I was scrolling through my phone — not really looking for anything, just doing that aimless scroll we all do. And I found a note I’d written months ago. It was a list of things I’d been praying for… and right under it, a few goals I’d scribbled down half-heartedly at the time.
Some I’d completely forgotten about.
Some I hadn’t touched.
And one or two? I’d actually done — without even realizing it until I saw that note again.
That moment hit different.
It made me pause and think: Why do we wait until January 1st to do this kind of reflection?
Seriously. Why?
We act like the whole year has to end before we check in with ourselves. But the truth is, you can hit reset any time — not just when the clock strikes midnight on December 31st.
There are two important questions you need to ask yourself:
What do I need to achieve?
What have I achieved so far?
Not what people expect from you.
Not what everyone else is doing.
Just you — your needs, your goals, your heart.
If you haven’t done that in a while, maybe this is your sign.
Take a note. Breathe. Think.
What do you want from you? What do you need you to do?
Write it down. Not for the aesthetic but for you. Even if it’s messy. Even if you don’t know how it’s going to happen. There’s something about putting it into words that makes it feel more real.
And I’m telling you — it works.
Some years ago, I had this random goal: start investing. Nothing too serious. Just enough to get started. I wrote it down… and then forgot about it.
Fast-forward to a random day — doing that same scroll through my notes — and there it was again.
That little reminder pushed me to finally take action. I dipped into my savings and made a low-risk investment. If I hadn’t written it down, I probably would’ve spent that money on something silly.
That’s the thing about goals. Once you set them, they plant something in you — a quiet accountability.
And when you check in with them? You start to move differently. With more intention. More clarity. More confidence.
Even the Bible gets it. In Habakkuk 2:2-3, it says:
“Write the vision; make it plain… For the vision awaits its appointed time.”
So maybe this is your nudge:
Open your Notes app.
Grab a scrap of paper.
Just write something.
Write your prayers.
Write your goals.
Check in with them from time to time.
And when you achieve something — big or small — celebrate it. Make a note of it. Let it remind you that you are moving forward, even when it doesn’t always feel like it.
You don’t need a “new year” to start fresh.
You just need a little honesty with yourself… and a willingness to try.
